Evelyn sat on her porch outside of her old house. It had been years since she had gotten to sit on the familiar wooden steps and look out to the beautiful forest that surrounded the area. Rain clouds covered they sky with a beautiful steel grey. The fog was not dense today, but it was a bit thick. Why was she here? To see a familiar face? To start anew in her past? Foolish. She was looking to her left at the path she had taken often with friends and old loves. Through the forest and to the main road of the huge gated community. Her reverie was abruptly interrupted when she saw someone emerge from the fog in the direction of the path. Oh, fate such a sneaky thing. Demetri stopped walking as soon as he saw her. She could she the twinkle of hope in his eyes already there as he looked at her with his deep chocolate eyes. She got up walked down the 3 stairs and hit the pavement. He walked until he reached her and was intimately close. He leaned down to kiss her lips and his long brown hair tickled her cheek. She stopped him with her finger to his lips. He breathed in sharply and looked into her eyes he use to know so well. She shook her head. " I can't " she whispered. He laughed at her, "And why is that?". She knew she had to take this head on or it would never be said. "I know what you want, but it's not possible for us. I have spent years away from here. I am not the girl who will take whatever anymore. I am not the girl you use to know or the one you loved. I speak my mind whenever I please. I am not a girl you would want anymore. You may wish it a thousand times, but I will not let it happen. I deal in second chances, not in thirds. And just because you can relive the past doesn't mean you should. I thought at one time maybe he is it, but I was blind to the fact that we just don't work well together. We never really did. As much as we loved each other, passion is a brief illusion. It isn't what I'm looking for. I found what I am looking for and I am happy with him. It doesn't mean you are a bad person. I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope you find someone to love you for everything that you are. The fantasy and the horror." She smiled up at him. He looked at her with thoughtful eyes, the twinkle had faded. He smiled at her too. "I have to hand it to you, you have always been passionate when you speak the truth. As much as it hurts. You are still as clever as always though." She smiled wider at that. "You always have my friendship and you know where to find me.", she said. "At the ugly green house beyond the path. I still remember the directions you gave me." He laughed and she laughed along with him. He bent down and kissed her cheek. "I will see you around then?" he asked. "Moving back in so, yes." He started to walk up the street towards his house practically disappearing in the fog. Closure. Best thing that could have come out of this trip. She went back to the porch waiting for her beloved to bring the car and to start their new life in their house in the woods. She felt the weight lifted from her shoulders. She knew this was the right choice for her even with her past lurking in the fog around her. <3
